Mission – The Nawali Center promotes art and culture, empowers women, cultivates job skills, and stimulates economic growth and sustainability in Comoros.
Vision – The Nawali Center seeks to promote and treasure Comorian art, culture and natural resources.
Case Statement – With its vast array of natural resources, including coconut oil, ylangylang, vanilla and cloves, Comoros is rich with capacity for economic productivity. Its unique and largely undiscovered culture presents opportunities for development. Complementing this are the self-determined Comorian women, who offer the ideal workforce with their untiring work ethic. The Nawali Center has the highest vision for leveraging Comoros’s treasures and works through various programs to honor, present and connect the best of Comorian resources.
Homeopathic/Therapeutic Commodities – Known as the “perfume islands”, Comoros has a wealth of resources that can be used for therapeutic remedies and treatments. While these resources are widely available on the islands, the Nawali Center has close connections with a known therapist and her all-natural healing serum – known as “mamatiti balm”- which is highly effective in its restorative qualities. In partnership with Mamatiti, the Nawali Center will reproduce the balm for sale, while also offering massage therapy services to its clientele.
The Nawali Center will also sell other local commodities including baobab powder, manioc flour, sagou flour, turmeric juice, turmeric syrup, powdered turmeric, medicinal herbs (ex moringua oliefera), spices, natural fruit juices, jams and energy bars.
Art and Culture – The Nawali Center will facilitate the production and presentation of Comorian culture, art and music. The Center will serve as a venue to create art, in various media. It will host residencies, courses and workshops for artists and sponsor bi-annual concerts.
Women – The Nawali Center will empower women by offering job training and employment to them. Interns will learn how to reproduce “mamatiti balm” and other oils, along with other locally sourced goods. They will also learn the craft of pottery (making plates and bowls), receive training in the hospitality and tourism industries and modern techniques of communication.
Economic Development and Sustainability – The Nawali Center’s combined application of Comoros’s natural resources will not only provide jobs and stimulate local economy, it will foster an environment of sustainability and growth. With natural quality products and a local and capable labor force, the N awali Center can become a pivotal force in the development of Comoros.
